Material requirements. Defined by product form.
Mica paper and rigid mica sheet or plate references: BS EN 60371-3-2 and BS EN 60371-3-3.
BS EN 60371-3 is a series of individual material specifications. The two references shown concern mica paper and rigid mica materials. Their scope is electrical insulation; they do not establish spiral-wound-gasket filler performance, leakage limits or pressure-temperature ratings.

Select a table to compare requirements.
| BS EN reference | Material form | Coverage | Gasket relevance |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS EN 60371-3-2:2006 | Mica paper | Paper feedstock for built-up mica products. A slit strip requires confirmation of the actual supplied construction. | Material-form reference; not a finished gasket-filler specification. |
| BS EN 60371-3-3:1995 | Rigid mica materials for heating equipment | Rigid mica sheet / plate used for thermal and electrical insulation. | Rigid sheet classification does not establish suitability as flexible spiral-wound filler. |
Only mica paper and rigid mica flat-material references are included. Commutator separators and electrical conductor/winding tapes are outside this page’s scope.
| Product / property | Required identification | Application data |
|---|---|---|
| Mica filler strip | Supplier grade, mineral type, binder, backing and thickness | Use the sealing-material datasheet for compressibility, recovery, handling and winding suitability. |
| Mica gasket sheet / plate | Exact sheet construction and reinforcement | Use product-specific sealing data for seating stress, creep, leakage and service temperature. |
| Mechanical properties | Requirements depend on the subpart and product designation | No universal tensile-strength or elongation value is assigned to generic Mica. |
| Chemical composition | Mineral type and binder system depend on the product | No metallic-style elemental composition table applies to the entire series. |
Numerical requirements must be associated with the exact mica product and applicable subpart. Insulation ratings are not gasket pressure-temperature ratings.
